VIEW THE RESULTS OF THE VER 2026 PERIODIC ASSESSMENT

Results of the Periodic Assessment of Research, Development, Artistic and Other Creative Activities VER 2026 (Verification of Excellence in Research) provide a comprehensive overview of the quality of creative activities of Slovak public higher education institutions and public research institutions across 28 research areas. The result of the VER 2026 assessment are availble at https://ver.cvtisr.sk/en/results/.

The evaluation represents a significant tool of independent expert assessment, carried out by international experts through peer-review, and provides a transparent assessment of the level of excellence of the research environment in Slovakia.

A total of 169 international experts from 23 countries, affiliated with 88 universities or research institutions (e.g., Princeton University, Boston University, University of Melbourne, TU Munich, ETH Zurich, Paris-Saclay University, Sapienza University of Rome, etc.), assessed the quality of Slovak science in an international context.

The published results offer an overview of the quality of the assessed activities in three domains.

The first domain concerns the evaluation of research outputs, which include scientific publications, monographs, artistic outputs and other outputs of creative activity.

The second domain is social impact, within which case studies document the contribution of research to society, the environment, practice, as well as to the design and implementation of public policies and other areas. For the first time in the history of the Slovak Republic, the periodic assessment also included the evaluation of research in terms of its social impact.

In the third domain, the quality of the creative environment was also assessed, reflecting the conditions, infrastructure and overall institutional settings for carrying out high-quality research, development, artistic or other creative activity.

The outcome of the assessment of submissions consists of three partial quality profiles corresponding to the individual evaluation domains, and one overall quality profile of the unit, which is a weighted aggregate of the evaluation domains (outputs – social impact – creative environment) according to the main research groups.

Within the results, it is possible to display the quality profiles of individual institutions and research fields, enabling their mutual comparison and a better understanding of the strengths of the Slovak research ecosystem. The published data also include detailed information on individual applications for assessment, including lists of outputs, case studies of social impact, and descriptions of the research environment in both Slovak and English, with applications having been submitted and assessed in English.

The results website also publishes the final reports of the assessment Panels and Sub-panels containing comments and recommendations regarding the state and quality of science, research and creative activity in the main research groups (e.g., political sciences, physical sciences, health sciences, etc.) or in the respective research areas (e.g., engineering, humanities, arts, etc.).
